Tomáš Čermák (born 8 February 1943) is a Czech engineer and the rector of the Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO). He was born in Ostrava and graduated in 1964 from Brno University of Technology in electrical engineering. From 1964 to 1968 he worked as an engineer at the Vitkovice Steel Company. In 1968 he became a senior researcher at VŠB-TUO, and in 1974 he earned a PhD in electrical drives from Brno University of Technology.

From 1977 to 1990 he was deputy head, head and vice-dean of the Department of Electrical Machines and Drives at VŠB-TUO. He became a full professor in 1991. Čermák was rector of the Technical University of Ostrava from 1990 to 1997, and then served as vice-rector for R&D and Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 2003. Since 2003 he has been rector again.

He is involved in many committees and organizations. He is vice-president of the Czech Universities Council, a member of the General Assembly of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and a founding member of the Czech Engineering Academy and the International Centre for Eyecare Education. He advises the Czech government as a member of the State Committee for Scientific Degrees and as Chairman of the Engineering Division of GAČR (Grant Agency of the Czech Republic).

Since 1997 he has been Chairman of the Board of the Vesuvius Slavia Group (formerly Hinckley Slavia) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at OZOBEL. He has written nine books and many articles.
