Vụ Bản district
Vụ Bản was a rural district in Nam Định province, in Vietnam’s Red River Delta. Its capital was the town of Gôi. The district covered about 153 square kilometers and had around 130,000 residents in 2020. Historically, the area was part of Hiển Khánh and went through several name changes, including Thiên Bản and Yên Bản, before becoming Vụ Bản. On September 1, 2025, Nam Định Province dissolved the district as part of administrative reorganization.
Vụ Bản was known for its fertile wet rice farming and rich local culture. Famous foods from the area include Siuchau candy, buffalo meat pho, and honey jackfruit. The district also produced many notable people, such as official Lương Thế Vinh, writer Nguyễn Bính, poet Trần Huy Liệu, and composer Văn Cao.
In recent decades, industry and waste management started to shape the region. Pollution from early industrial activity prompted efforts to improve the environment, and from 2018 to 2038 the province planned a transition toward greener industry with help from Japanese experts.
