Tijeras is a barrio (neighborhood) in the municipality of Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico. It covers about 4.46 square miles (11.6 km²), with 4.44 square miles of land and a small amount of water. The elevation is about 453 feet (138 meters). In 2010, Tijeras had a population of 5,670 and a density of about 1,277 people per square mile (493 per km²). The area is located at roughly 18.0407° N, 66.4811° W. Puerto Rico is a United States territory that used to be part of Spain. After the 1898 Treaty of Paris, the U.S. took control, and a 1899 census counted 1,005 people living in Tijeras and the nearby Emajagual.
