Tin Man (America song)
Tin Man is a 1974 soft rock song by the American band America. It was written by Dewey Bunnell and produced by George Martin, who also plays piano on the recording. The song appears on America’s 1974 album Holiday and was released as the first single from the album. The title and some lyrics reference the Tin Woodman from The Wizard of Oz; Bunnell has explained that he loved the movie as a kid and used poetic license in the lyrics. The track runs about 3 minutes and 25 seconds.
Tin Man became a major US hit, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in November 1974 and reaching number one on the Billboard Easy Listening chart in October 1974. In the United Kingdom, it did not chart and was the B-side to the album track "Mad Dog."
Covers and other versions: a Finnish version titled "Toisin käy" was recorded by Cascade in 1974; Chocolate Milk covered the song on their 1975 debut Action Speaks Louder Than Words. Brazilian singer Ivo Meirelles recorded a Portuguese version titled "Swing Man" for his 2004 album Samba Soul. The group Incognito included the song on their 2006 album Bees + Things + Flowers with Carleen Anderson, and Evan Olson released a cover on his 1999 album One Room.
