Susan Garrett is a former Democratic member of the Illinois Senate. She represented the 29th District from 2003 to 2013 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives for the 59th district from 1999 to 2003.

The 29th District includes all or parts of Bannockburn, Deerfield, Des Plaines, Fort Sheridan, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Knollwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Mount Prospect, Niles, Northbrook, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights and Riverwoods.

After redistricting following the 2000 census, Garrett won the Senate seat in 2002, defeating the vulnerable incumbent Kathy Parker.

In the Illinois House, she proposed limits on campaign contributions from government employees to politicians they worked for, and from special interests. After moving to the Senate, she was named vice chair of the Government Ethics Reform Committee.

In July 2011, Garrett announced she would not seek re-election in 2012.

Garrett lives in Lake Forest with her husband, Scott. They have two adult children, Brett and Elizabeth. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Lake Forest College in 1994 and worked as a marketing consultant before becoming a full-time legislator.
