November 1981 (album)
November 1981 is a double album by American jazz trumpeter Bill Dixon. It has two records: one recorded live in Zurich and another in a Milan studio in November 1981. The album was released in 1982 on the Italian Soul Note label (catalog SN 1037/38) and runs 79 minutes. It was produced by Giovanni Bonandrini.
Reception was positive. AllMusic’s Bob Rusch praised it as Dixon’s most in-command set so far, noting that the later tracks are especially immediate and daring and that the work remains marked by purity. The Penguin Guide to Jazz awarded four stars, calling it Dixon’s small-group masterpiece, finely built around silence, rich drones from the bass, and a Klangfarbenmelodie approach where timbre and color are structural, with the trumpet used sparingly.
