This Grave Is Too Small for Me
This Grave Is Too Small for Me, also known in Serbian as Mali mi je ovaj grob and sometimes translated as This Tomb Is Too Small, is a dramatic stage play by Serbian writer Biljana Srbljanović. It follows Gavrilo Princip and his associates in the weeks before Princip’s 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an act that helped trigger World War I. The play uses history but changes many details and focuses on moral conflicts and character issues. It premiered at the Schauspielhaus in Vienna in October 2013 and has been well received in cities like Berlin and Belgrade. Srbljanović has said she is not very interested in history or World War I, but she finds Princip’s story fascinating because of its tough ethical questions. In October 2014, the production won two awards at the International Theatre Festival of Small and Experimental Stage (MESS): one for Srbljanović and another for Sarajevo-based actor Ermin Bravo for best stage performance.
