The Flummies are a five-member Aboriginal music group from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. They started in 1978, formed from members of the Best White Band. The name comes from flummies, a traditional Labrador trappers’ bread. They play traditional Labrador music and work to preserve historical and cultural songs of the Innu, Inuit, and Métis people who have lived in Labrador for centuries. Their songs tell stories of hardship and the beauty of the Labrador landscape. Their second album, Songs of Labrador, came out in 1989 and helped them sell thousands of albums. They have performed across Newfoundland and Labrador at many festivals and conferences, and have even toured internationally, with five shows in Germany in 1989 and 28 shows at the CN Tower base in June 1999. They are active from 1978 to the present and are associated with World Records. Their website is theflummies.com.
