The Sleep-ins
The Sleep-ins are an indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. They formed in 2003 when Chad Corley, Stefan Pope, and Ben Price started playing together and later signed with US label 128 Records. They released an early single in 2004, “Silver State” / “Angelina (early bird mix).” The band went through several lineup changes, with drummers Josh Lanham and Josh Schuberth and briefly Richard Ploog, and guitarist Chris Colla before settling for a while. Colla left in 2005 and guitarist Mike Johnson joined in 2006, but visa issues forced Johnson and Pope to leave, and Corley returned to the US, effectively ending the group.
In 2010, Corley and Johnson reformed the Sleep-ins in Asheville, North Carolina to tour in support of the album Songs About Girls & Outer Space, released October 19, 2010 on Ingot Rock. The album collected recordings the band had made in Australia from 2004–2006, including “Silver State” and “Angelina.” Johnson and Corley were joined by A.J. Donahue (drums) and Jeremy Rasik (bass) for the tour, with Heath Metzger and James Butler joining for the final Nashville show. The album was well received and charted on CMJ New Music Report. The opening track “Silver State” was featured on Magnet and later appeared on the soundtrack for the 2013 film As Cool As I Am.
