The Real Geeks
The Real Geeks, also known as TRG Magazine, is a biweekly online magazine about geek culture. It covers technology, music, entertainment, travel, and more, with new issues released every other Friday.
The site launched on January 10, 2011, founded by Ian Webb and Sam Linville after development began in October 2010. A parent company, TRG Media, was created to manage The Real Geeks and other projects, but it was dissolved in April 2012, leaving The Real Geeks as the main site.
Over the years, The Real Geeks has undergone several redesigns and shifts in focus. A major site redesign occurred in November 2012, and in November 2013 the site went offline briefly with a tease of a new direction. It relaunched on February 10, 2014 with a culture-based focus and later adopted a custom Kirby CMS design. The Real Geeks has attended CES as press, earning recognition from big brands and growing its social media presence.
The site also launched its own podcast network, TRG Techcasts, on February 22, 2012, featuring five shows. The network was on air for three weeks, went on hiatus in March, briefly considered restarting, and was finally shut down at the end of April 2012 as the site refocused on other projects.
The Real Geeks is currently offline. Editor-in-chief is Ian Webb, and the CIO is Russ Webb. Headquarters are listed as Atlanta, Georgia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. The site’s URL is therealgeeks.com.
