The Muse Thalia
Thalia is a painting from about 1546 by Michele Pannonio. It is signed by the artist and was made for the Belfiore studiolo. The project began under Lionello d’Este in 1447 and was finished by his brother Borso in 1463. After the palace burned in 1632, its paintings were scattered. Thalia is now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. It was long misidentified as Ceres. It is one of Pannonio’s few known works; he was active in Ferrara but had Hungarian origins.
