Harttia absaberi
Harttia absaberi is a small freshwater armored catfish from Brazil. It belongs to the loricariid family, known as armored suckermouth catfishes. The species lives in the upper Paraná River basin, known from two places: the Passa Cinco River in São Paulo and two small streams feeding the Sucuriú River near Três Lagoas in Mato Grosso do Sul. It seems to no longer occur in São Paulo but has recently been found again in Mato Grosso do Sul. Adults reach up to 7.4 cm in length. Harttia absaberi was described in 2013 by Osvaldo Takeshi Oyakawa, Ilana Fichberg and Francisco Langeani. The type locality is Ribeirão São Mateus, a tributary of the Sucuriú River near Três Lagoas. The name absaberi honors Brazilian geographer Aziz Nacib Ab’Sáber for his work in geography, ecology and geomorphology in Brazil. Its conservation status is Least Concern.
