2020–21 EHF Champions League
The 2020–21 EHF Champions League was the 61st edition of Europe’s top club handball competition and the 28th under the current format. It ran from 16 September 2020 to 13 June 2021. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators were limited by local health rules at every match.
Sixteen teams competed, split into two groups of eight for a double round-robin group stage. Originally, the top two in each group would reach the quarterfinals and the 3rd–6th places would go to playoffs. On 10 February 2021, the EHF decided that all 16 teams would advance from the group stage, so the knockout rounds began with the round of 16. Matches were played mainly on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 18:45 and 20:45 CET/CEST.
The knockout rounds included the round of 16, quarterfinals, and the Final Four—the semifinals and final played as single matches at a pre-selected venue, the Lanxess Arena in Cologne.
Barça defeated Aalborg Håndbold 36–23 in the final to win their 10th title.
In total, 123 matches were played, with 7,405 goals scored (about 60.2 per game). Attendance was 53,304 (around 433 per match). The top scorer was Valero Rivera Folch with 95 goals. The all-star team was announced on 11 June 2021.
