The Knock at the Manor Gate
The Knock at the Manor Gate is a short story by Franz Kafka. It follows a narrator who is riding home with his sister. The sister playfully taps on the door of a large, powerful house. That small knock brings big trouble when the owner, a powerful man, sends troops after them. The narrator sees it as a warning: small actions can have big, even deadly, consequences.
