Staphylococcus lentus

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Staphylococcus lentus is a Gram-positive, oxidase-positive, coagulase-negative bacterium in the Staphylococcus family. Its cells are spherical and tend to form small clusters. It was once considered a subspecies of Staphylococcus sciuri (Staphylococcus sciuri subsp. lentus) but is now recognized as its own species. Among studied subspecies of S. sciuri, S. lentus is the only one known to use the sugar raffinose (a trisaccharide).
