The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve
The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve is Capcom’s adventure game and the tenth entry in the Ace Attorney series. It’s the sequel to The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and follows the same courtroom drama and investigative gameplay. Originally released for Nintendo 3DS in Japan on August 3, 2017, with Android and iOS versions in Japan arriving on April 24, 2018, it later came worldwide in July 2021 as part of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which also includes the first game. The Chronicles edition released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows.
As with previous titles in the series, Resolve blends investigation and courtroom battles. Players search locations, collect evidence, and interview witnesses during investigations, then use that information to confront witnesses and uncover the truth in court. The game keeps new and returning mechanics from The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures, such as the Dance of Deduction, where you correct a flawed theory about the crime, and Summation Examinations, which challenge you to persuade the jury by comparing statements and evidence.
The story follows Susato Mikotoba returning to Japan and Ryunosuke Naruhodo, as they untangle a pair of interlinked cases across Japan and England. Susato’s friend is accused of murder, and she works undercover to prove innocence and expose the real killer. In England, Ryunosuke faces a high-stakes trial led by the infamous prosecutor Barok van Zieks, while uncovering a broader conspiracy involving a powerful judge and a string of past killings tied to a figure known as the Professor. The investigation uncovers deep corruption, shocking family ties, and the truth behind the mastermind Mael Stronghart. In the end, justice is pursued and the characters’ fates advance toward the next chapter of the story. The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve was celebrated for its storytelling and was later re-released worldwide as part of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
