The Eight Dimensions is Jay Chou’s third studio album, released on July 18, 2002, by BMG Taiwan and Alfa Music. Chou wrote most of the lyrics himself with help from collaborators, and all the music is his. The album blends Mandopop with R&B and pop, and also shows influences from rock, hip-hop, and soul. It received generally favorable reviews for its sound and imagination. Taiwan’s best-selling album of 2002, it moved about 335,000 copies there and has sold over 2.2 million across Asia. To promote it, Chou launched The One World Tour, which ran from 2002 to 2004.

The Eight Dimensions mostly sticks to R&B, but each track explores different moods and ideas. Notable songs include:
- Half-beast Human: electronic with prominent violin
- Peninsula Ironbox: R&B with acoustic guitar
- Secret Code: about unspoken love
- Dragon Fist: traditional Chinese instruments with rock
- The Train’s Destination: sung in Minnan
- Split: a power ballad about not finishing university
- Grandpa’s Tea: cheerful scene of making tea
- Back to the Past: lonely love ballad
- Little Blacksmith in Milan: rap with Italian folk vibes
- The Final Battle: intense battlefield emotion

The title Octave Space reflects Chou’s goal to make music inside the Western octave while creating his own new art form. The cover shows a futuristic image featuring Chou’s skull. The project also connected with Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne in Taiwan, where Chou served as a spokesperson and produced the Chinese theme song “Half-beast Human.” A companion book, Peninsula Ironbox, was released, and several music videos were produced.

The Eight Dimensions earned multiple awards and nominations, including wins at the G-Music Billboard Platinum Awards and the IFPI Hong Kong awards, plus Golden Melody Award nominations. The album helped fuel Chou’s continued success and his next world tour. All music on the album was composed by Jay Chou.
