The Door Is Always Open is a country song written by Dickey Lee and Bob McDill. It was first recorded by Tennessee Pulleybone for JMI Records and reached number 75 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1973. Lois Johnson also released a version in 1975, which climbed to number 70.

The best-known version is by Dave & Sugar, released as a single in 1976 from their self-titled album. Their track, with the B-side “Late Nite Country Lovin’ Music,” was issued in April 1976 and recorded January 22, 1976 at RCA Victor Studio in Nashville. The song runs 2:41, and is on RCA Records. It was written by Dickey Lee and Bob McDill and produced by Jerry Bradley and Charley Pride.

In July 1976, Dave & Sugar’s version became the group’s first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Around this time, their other singles included “Queen of the Silver Dollar” (1975) before it and “I’m Gonna Love You” (1976) after it.
