The City Slicker is a 1918 American short comedy film starring Harold Lloyd. Directed by Gilbert Pratt and produced by Hal Roach, the 12-minute silent features English intertitles. In the story, Lloyd’s character arrives in the small town of Punkville to answer a job ad for someone who can modernize an outdated hotel. He quickly modernizes the inn, with rooms where furniture, beds, telephones and bathtubs pop out of the walls. Bebe arrives at the hotel with her domineering mother. Harold is drawn to her and helps her fend off an older suitor she doesn’t want. A copy of the film survives in the Library of Congress.
