Théodat Lake
Théodat Lake is a freshwater lake in the Nord-du-Québec region of Canada, within the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory. It lies in the Broadback River basin at about 50.907°N, 76.154°W. The lake is 20.1 km long and up to 8.0 km wide, with an elevation of 283 m, and it contains about 43 islands.
The Théodat River flows through the lake, feeding it from the east and draining it to the west toward Le Gardeur Lake. The lake can be reached by a forest road from Matagami that passes west of Evans Lake. In winter, the surface is usually frozen from early November to mid-May, with safe ice travel from mid-November to mid-April.
Historically the lake had several names, including Geikie, Eikie, Mill Lake, and Mishagomish Lake. In 1945 the Geography Commission selected Théodat as the official name, inspired by Theodat, a figure connected to Gabriel Sagard, a 17th-century missionary and writer. The name Théodat Lake was officially adopted on December 5, 1968.
