Terry and Barbi Franklin
Terry and Barbi Franklin are American singers and songwriters who create contemporary inspirational Christian music. They lead Love Sings! Ministries, a faith-based music and prayer ministry they’ve run since 1985. They also host family worship events, marriage retreats, and worship conferences.
Terry grew up in Miami, Florida, in a musical family. His father, Bob Franklin, sang with The Suntones, a well-known barbershop group. Barbi, born Barbi Murk in Chicago, was part of the Murk Family Musicale, a traveling family group that performed from the early 1960s through the late 1980s.
The couple met in 1980 while studying at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and married in 1983. They began their recording ministry in 1985 with City Alive Records, producing Time for Joy, their first TV special. In 1988 they moved to Nashville and wrote “No Wonder,” which received radio play nationwide.
From 1992 to 1994, Terry sang tenor with the Gaither Vocal Band, helping with two albums, Peace of the Rock and Southern Classics. The title track of Peace of the Rock topped the CCM chart, and Southern Classics won a Dove Award. Their songs have been recorded by many other artists and earned several Dove Awards and nominations. They also contributed to the soundtrack for The Apostle, which later won a Grammy.
The Franklins have written many songs about prayer, revival, and family, including “Out of His Great Love,” “Calvary Came Through,” “God of All Gods,” and “For God So Loved.” These songs have been successful for other artists, and the Franklins later recorded them on their own albums. “For God So Loved” reached No. 1 on the Singing News chart in 1997 and won Song of the Year in 1998. They recorded it again on their 2014 album Awaken Us, produced with Lari Goss.
In 2009 they released a family music CD, The Franklins, with their two sons contributing. In 2011 they started Worship City in Tennessee, a ministry that brings worship and prayer leaders together for citywide prayer and fasting, including the David’s Tent Tennessee project. They have hosted many events there and secured the Worship City trademark.
Love Sings! Ministries now focuses on family worship, marriage retreats, and prayer/worship conferences. In 2011 they helped sponsor a nationwide 40-day prayer effort with American Family Radio, and they planned a 2018 nationwide marriage seminar with the American Family Association. Terry and Barbi live in Nashville, Tennessee, and have two grown children.
