2019 Portland, Maine, mayoral election
Portland, Maine held its mayoral election on November 5, 2019. This was the third election since the city charter was changed in 2010 to recreate an elected mayor.
Four candidates ran: incumbent Ethan Strimling, city councilor Spencer Thibodeau, former Portland School Board Chair Kate Snyder, and East End resident Travis Curran. The race was nonpartisan, though all candidates were registered with the Maine Democratic Party.
First-round results:
- Kate Snyder: 7,119 votes (39.33%)
- Spencer Thibodeau: 5,110 votes (28.23%)
- Ethan Strimling: 4,575 votes (25.28%)
- Travis Curran: 1,296 votes (7.16%)
Under ranked-choice voting, Curran and Strimling were eliminated and their votes were redistributed. In the final round, Kate Snyder won with 10,460 votes (61.89%), while Spencer Thibodeau received 6,442 votes (38.11%).
Kate Snyder was elected mayor for a four-year term in the full-time position, in accordance with the Portland City Charter.
