Tavua (Indian Communal Constituency, Fiji)
Tavua Indian Communal was a former voting district in Fiji. It was one of 19 communal seats reserved for Indo-Fijians. Created by Fiji’s 1997 Constitution, it first appeared in 1999 and was used in the 1999, 2001, and 2006 elections. The electorate was in the western part of Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island. In 2013, a new constitution abolished all communal seats and introduced proportional representation with the whole country voting as a single electorate. In election results, the primary vote is the first-choice votes, and the final vote reflects the tally after redistributing votes from lower-ranked candidates according to pre-arranged agreements (a form of instant-runoff voting).
