Taisan-ji (Matsuyama)
Taisan-ji (太山寺) is a Shingon temple in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, Japan. It is Temple 52 on the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage and Temple 3 on the Iyo Thirteen Buddhist Sites. The main hall (Hondō) is a National Treasure. The temple’s legend says it was founded in the 6th century by a wealthy Kyushu merchant who survived a shipwreck with help from Jūichimen Kannon. It has enjoyed imperial support since the time of Emperor Shōmu.
