Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 metre butterfly
The men’s 100 metre butterfly at the 2012 Summer Olympics took place on August 2–3 at the London Aquatics Centre. There were 43 swimmers from 35 nations.
Michael Phelps of the United States won his 17th Olympic gold medal and 21st overall with a time of 51.21 seconds, coming from seventh at the halfway turn to edge the field.
Two swimmers shared the silver medal: Chad le Clos of South Africa and Yevgeny Korotyshkin of Russia, both finishing in 51.44 seconds.
Two swimmers tied for fourth: Milorad Čavić of Serbia and Steffen Deibler of Germany, each at 51.81 seconds. Other finalists included Joeri Verlinden (Netherlands) with 51.82, Tyler McGill (USA) with 51.88, Konrad Czerniak (Poland) with 52.05, Dinko Jukic (Austria) with 51.99, and Jason Dunford (Kenya) with 52.16.
