Suzan Najm Aldeen
Suzan Najm Aldeen, born Suzan Al Saleh on 24 November 1966 in Duraykish, Syria, is a well-known Syrian actress. She comes from a family of poets; her father, Najm Aldeen Saleh, was a poet and a member of the Syrian Parliament, and her mother, Dawlat Al-Abbasi, is also a poet. She is one of six children.
She studied architecture at Damascus University and joined the art society, which sparked her acting interest. She pursued acting while completing her architecture degree and began her career in the 1990s, starting with smaller roles and later taking on lead parts in many Syrian dramas. Her first screen role was in Aldakhliah, opposite Jihad Saad.
In 2016 she starred as Rose in the series Shoq, based on a true story about a captive taken by ISIS. The role highlighted human rights issues and drew wide attention.
Suzan married businessman Siraj Al-Attasi in 1995, and they had four children. The couple divorced in 2014 due to differences over the Syrian war.
She was a vocal supporter of President Bashar al-Assad during the conflict, but after the regime fell in 2024 she expressed regret for her stance, calling the regime’s abuses heartbreaking.
Suzan Najm Aldeen has been active as an actress since 1992 and remains a prominent figure in Arab television and cinema.
