Sumner is a south-western suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, about 15 km from the city centre. It covers 1.9 square kilometres and had 603 residents in 2021. The western part is mainly residential, while the eastern side hosts the large industrial estate called Sumner Park.

History and naming
The area was once part of the Wolston Estate, with land auctions in 1901. It became part of the City of Brisbane as development continued and was officially named Sumner in 1969. The name comes from Sumner Road, which marks the northern boundary and was named after a lawyer who visited his property on weekends. Centenary Memorial Gardens, a crematorium and cemetery, opened in 2001 at 353 Wacol Station Road.

Floods
Parts of Sumner were flooded during the 2011 Brisbane floods.

Population and demographics
Sumner had 539 people in 2011, 595 in 2016, and 603 in 2021. The area is mainly Australian-born, with English spoken at home as the most common language.

Education
There are no schools in Sumner. The nearest government primary school is Middle Park State School in nearby Middle Park, and the nearest government secondary school is Centenary State High School in Jindalee.

Amenities and surroundings
Centenary Memorial Gardens serves as a major landmark in the area. There are several parks in Sumner, and the suburb is bordered by suburbs such as Middle Park, Jamboree Heights, Sinnamon Park, Riverhills, and Darra.
