Happy Gilmore
Happy Gilmore is a 1996 American sports comedy film starring Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore, a loud, hot‑tempered wannabe hockey player who discovers he’s a natural at golf. To save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure, he enters the world of professional golf and uses a very unorthodox, powerful swing that drives the ball farther than most players.
Plot in simple terms:
Happy, a failed hockey player with anger issues, learns he can hit golf balls incredibly far. He teams up with former pro Chubbs Peterson, who lost a hand in an alligator attack, and a rough-around-the-edges homeless man he hires as a caddy named Otto. Happy enters the Waterbury Open, a big golf event that could earn him a PGA Tour spot and money to pay the IRS debt threatening his grandmother’s home. Along the way, he becomes a fan favorite with his wild drives and antics but clashes with the arrogant star Shooter McGavin and the tour’s officials. He also forms a romance with tour public relations chief Virginia Venit, who helps him improve his focus and behavior.
In the final stretch, Happy faces challenges from McGavin and a prank-filled lineup of obstacles, including a rival who tries to derail him. With help from friends, a bit of luck, and some clever putting, Happy wins the Tour Championship and earns enough money to save his grandmother’s house.
