Steve Suter (born June 26, 1982) is a former American football player who starred as a wide receiver and return specialist for the Maryland Terrapins and had a brief stint in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Known for his speed and elusiveness, he set several NCAA and ACC records for returns during his college days.

In 2002 he put up standout numbers: NCAA single-season punt returns (56), kick returns (78), and punt return yards (778), plus four punt return touchdowns (tying the NCAA mark at the time). He earned All-American second-team honors and All-ACC first-team recognition as a return specialist. He also contributed as a receiver and ball carrier, including a memorable 91-yard touchdown reception and a Peach Bowl performance where he helped Maryland win key moments. Suter’s success came despite a history of injuries, and he finished college with ACC records for career punt return yards (1,271) and several other return records. He never fair caught a punt, emphasizing his fearless style.

Suter went undrafted in 2005 but tried out with the Washington Redskins before signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played two CFL games, returned kicks and punts, but injuries—shoulder and collarbone issues—limited his pro career, and he was released after the 2006 training camp. After football, he returned to Maryland and began coaching at the Scott McBrien Passing Academy in Rockville, where he mentors young receivers and works with former Maryland teammates. The camp aims to help smaller or overlooked players earn college opportunities.
