Mount Myōjō
Mount Myōjō (Myōjōgatake) is a 924-meter-high mountain on the border of Odawara and Hakone in Kanagawa, Japan. It sits on the ancient outer rim of Mount Hakone and is part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Although it’s under 1,000 meters, it looks tall from Odawara because of the Evening Star, which is why it’s named Myōjō (meaning Evening or Morning Star). A popular hiking route goes from Mount Myōjō to Mount Kintoki via Mount Myōjin. On August 16, the last day of the Bon Festival, the Burning of the Character Big ritual is performed on Mount Myōjin as part of the Hakone Gora Summer Festival. Coordinates: 35°15′22″N 139°04′03″E.
