Stephen Redding
Stephen Redding is a British-American economist who studies international trade, economic geography, urban economics, transportation economics, and productivity growth. His recent work looks at how firms differ in international trade, multi-product firms, the distributional effects of globalization, how cities cluster (agglomeration), and improvements in transport infrastructure. He has taught at the London School of Economics, Yale School of Management, and Princeton University, and he was a Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard. He has also worked at the Bank of England.
As of 2025, he is the Kleinheinz Family Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics at Stanford University, and he directs the International Trade and Investment Program at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a fellow of the Econometric Society and serves as an associate editor of Econometrica and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. He is also affiliated with the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics and with the Centre for Economic Policy Research.
