Statue of Alexander Andreyevich Baranov

The statue is in Sitka, Alaska, and honors Alexander Andreyevich Baranov. It stood outdoors in Sitka for many years.

In 2020, amid controversy, Sitka’s town council voted to remove the statue, and it was vandalized that year. On September 29, 2020, it was moved to the Sitka Historical Society and Museum in Harrigan Centennial Hall.

Baranov is alleged to have overseen the enslavement of the Tlingit and Aleut people, which is part of why the statue was controversial.
