Harry Dénis
Harry Dénis was a Dutch football player born on 28 August 1896 in The Hague and died on 13 July 1971, also in The Hague. He played as a right back and spent his entire club career with HBS after starting at DVV, winning the Netherlands League Championship in 1925 with HBS.
For the Netherlands national team, he earned 56 caps between 1919 and 1930 and captained the team in 37 matches. He was one of the Netherlands’ top players in the 1920s.
Dénis represented the Netherlands at three Summer Olympics: 1920 in Antwerp (where they won bronze), 1924 in Paris (finishing fourth), and 1928 in Amsterdam (where he gave the Olympic Oath at the opening ceremony). He held the Dutch caps record from 1925 until 1937.
