Stan Hovdebo
Stanley John Hovdebo (August 20, 1925 – January 14, 2018) was a Canadian educator and politician with the New Democratic Party. He was born in Domremy, Saskatchewan.
Hovdebo first ran for Parliament in the Prince Albert riding in 1979. He lost to former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, who died in office later that year, triggering a by-election on November 19, 1979. Hovdebo won the by-election and became the MP for Prince Albert. He was re-elected in 1980 and 1984.
Ahead of the 1988 federal election, the Prince Albert riding was dissolved. Hovdebo was elected in the new Saskatoon–Humboldt riding and continued serving in Parliament until his retirement in 1993. He served in the last weeks of the 31st Parliament and for full terms in the 32nd, 33rd, and 34th Parliaments.
Hovdebo died in 2018 at the age of 92 in Northern Light, Saskatchewan.
