Squalius carolitertii, the Northern Iberian chub, is a small freshwater fish found in Spain and Portugal. It is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.

Where it lives
- Habitat: rivers and intermittent rivers
- Range: Iberian Peninsula, in river basins such as Douro, Mondego, Lima, Minho, and Lérez
- There have also been reports of it in the upper Alberche River and the Oitavén River

What it is
- It is a member of the Leuciscidae family (the true minnows) in the genus Squalius
- It was first described in 1988 as Leuciscus carolitertii and later placed in Squalius
- The species name carolitertii honors King Carlos III of Spain

What it eats
- Diet: omnivorous, mainly aquatic invertebrates (including Baetis mayfly nymphs) and detritus
- The diet changes as the fish grows: detritus becomes less important, prey selection changes, and the average prey size increases with fish size

Notes
- This species is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula and is known by local names such as bordallo, escalo, or gallego.
