Spiro Hill
Spiro Hill is a hill in Antarctica. It is about 120 meters high and stands at the head of Edgell Bay on Nelson Island, in the South Shetland Islands. The current name replaced the provisional name “Sudeste” in 1956, approved by Argentina’s Geographic Coordinating Committee. The hill is named in honor of Spiro, a Greek-born mariner who served in Admiral Brown’s squadron and died bravely by exploding the ship’s magazine rather than surrender. Coordinates: 62°16′S, 59°0′W (about 62.267°S, 59.000°W).
