Sphaeniscus
Sphaeniscus is a genus of tephritid or fruit flies in the family Tephritidae. The genus was named by Becker in 1908, and the type species is Sphaeniscus brevicauda. It belongs to the subfamily Tephritinae and the tribe Tephrellini. Several synonyms have been used for this genus, including Pseudopheniscus, Pseudospheniscus, Pseuopspheniscus, Spheniscomyia, and Spheniscus. A specimen from Zimbabwe has been recorded.
