Southern Distributor Road (SDR) is a major road in Newport, Wales. It runs from the Coldra roundabout (M4 Junction 24) in the east to Tredegar Park (M4 Junction 28) in the west, and includes City Bridge over the River Usk. Together with the M4 to the north, the SDR forms the southern part of Newport’s ring road. The road was completed in 2004 and covers Ringland Way, Spytty Road, East Dock Road, Usk Way and Docks Way. The eastern and western sections were built with space on one side to allow future widening, so they can be joined into a continuous dual carriageway across the city. When opened, the SDR was designated the A48, replacing the old Chepstow Road/Cardiff Road corridor, which was downgraded to the B4237. Newport Unlimited said its opening was a key part of regeneration, helping reduce traffic in the city centre and improving access to eastern and southern industrial areas.
