Sony Xperia Tablet S is a touchscreen Android tablet made by Sony Mobile as part of the Xperia line. It was announced at the 2012 IFA show in Berlin and released in the United States on September 7, 2012. It followed the Sony Tablet S, offering a thinner, lighter design, a faster processor, and a better camera. It was the first Sony tablet marketed under the Xperia name, marking a shift from the older Sony Tablet branding.

Hardware
The Tablet S uses a magazine-style design similar to its predecessor but with a less pronounced angle. It includes a full-size SD card slot, a proprietary Sony charging port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It also has an infrared (IR) blaster, allowing the tablet to act as a universal remote. Sony advertised the device as splash-proof with the multi-port cover installed. In October 2012, sales were paused after a manufacturing defect created gaps between the screen and the case, which could affect waterproofing.

Software
The tablet shipped with a modified version of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, which added features like multiple user accounts and IR control. It was later upgradable to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Variants and specs
Xperia Tablet S was sold in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models. In the United States, there were Wi‑Fi-only versions, while the United Kingdom offered 3G/4G variants. It weighed about 585 grams and had a 1280x800 HD display. The device used NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad‑core at 1.3 GHz and came with 1 GB of RAM.

Reception
Critical opinions were mixed. Engadget criticized its everyday performance, while The Verge gave it 7.6 out of 10, saying it had no major faults.

Predecessor and successor
It was the successor to the Sony Tablet S and was followed by the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
