Songs of Theodorakis
Songs of Theodorakis is a live album by Greek actress and singer Irene Papas. She sings eleven Greek songs written by Mikis Theodorakis. The album was released by RCA Victor in 1968 (France release in 1969). All eleven tracks were recorded during a New York concert Papas gave in 1969, with Harry Lemonopoulos conducting. The album was produced by Andy Wiswell, who also wrote the liner notes. In Greece, Anodos released it in 1990. It was remastered and issued on CD in 2004 by FM Records as Irene Papas Sings Mikis Theodorakis. Papas and Theodorakis had both gone into exile after Greece’s 1967 military dictatorship. The New York Times critic Clive Barnes praised her performance, saying her intense singing matches her striking appearance.
