2004 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse tournament
The 2004 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse tournament was the 34th annual event to determine the national champion in men's college lacrosse. It featured 16 teams and ran May 15–31, 2004. The semifinals were played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, where 46,923 fans attended. The final drew 43,898 fans, and total attendance for the tournament was 90,821.
Syracuse won the championship, its 8th national title, by defeating Navy 14–13. The Orange trailed 12–11 in the fourth quarter but scored three goals in the last five minutes to pull ahead. Michael Powell, a Syracuse senior, scored the game-winning goal with one minute left and finished with one goal and five assists in the final. Powell was the tournament's most outstanding player and the top scorer with 19 goals.
Navy, making its second title game appearance, reached the final after beating other semifinalists Johns Hopkins and Princeton. The championship coach was John Desko, winning his third title. The tournament also marked Providence's first-ever appearance in Division I lacrosse.
Powell's brothers Casey and Ryan Powell had already won national titles with Syracuse, making the Powell brothers the first trio to win a national championship at the same school.
