Sonam Dechen Wangchuck
Princess Sonam Dechen Wangchuck, born 5 August 1981, is a Bhutanese princess. She is the daughter of the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck and Queen Dorji Wangmo, and the half-sister of Bhutan’s current king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. She was educated at Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School and Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School in Bhutan, then attended Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. She earned a degree in international relations from Stanford University (1999) and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School (2007). She clerked for Bhutan’s Royal High Court and later served as president of the Bhutan National Legal Institute. Her name means merit, longevity and good fortune. She married Phub W. Dorji, born 1980, on 5 April 2009 at Motithang Palace. Phub Dorji has studied in the United States and has worked in the Finance Ministry. They have two sons.
