Snarleyow is a Rudyard Kipling poem published in late 1890. The title character is a horse that helps pull a gun as part of a military team. It’s one of Kipling’s many works about life in the British Army. The poem seems to be based on an incident in Staff Sergeant Nathaniel W. Bancroft’s life, who served with the Bengal Horse Artillery and later the Royal Horse Artillery. G. F. Cobb later set the poem to music.
