The modern pentathlon at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured two men’s events: an individual competition and a team competition. The events ran October 11–15, 1964. Thirty-seven athletes from fifteen nations competed.

The pentathlon includes five disciplines: fencing, swimming, show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross-country running. In these Olympics, one set of results determined both the individual standings and the team scores (the team score being the sum of its members’ scores).

- Gold: Ferenc Török (Hungary)
- Silver: Igor Novikov (Soviet Union)
- Bronze: Albert Mokeev (Soviet Union)
