Simon Cain
Simon Cain, born Terence Cain on 19 May 1938 in Orpington, Kent, England, was an English-Australian actor, horse breeder and art gallery owner. He died on 1 May 2019 in Success, Western Australia, aged 80.
Early life: Cain and his brother Barry were sent to Australia in 1950 for schooling, growing up on a farm in Pindjarup near Perth. While living in Perth, he developed an interest in drama. He moved to Sydney to pursue acting, starting in small stage roles and then appearing in TV plays and series such as Whiplash.
Career in the UK: He returned to the UK in 1964 and worked at St Martin's Theatre. His TV credits included No Hiding Place, The Rat Catchers, Doctor Who (as Curly in The Enemy of the World and later as a Silurian in Doctor Who and the Silurians), Manhunt and Doomwatch, along with appearances in Carry On films, before going back to Australia in 1972.
Australia and later life: Cain became a horse breeder in Western Australia and worked on ranches, interacting with Aboriginal communities. In 1991, drawn to the United States by evangelist Herbert W. Armstrong, he settled in Gilmer, Texas after purchasing Australian artefacts and deciding to stay to promote Aboriginal art. He founded Indigenous Aspirations, an art gallery in Gilmer focused on Aboriginal art, which he moved to Longview in 1999. He also gave lectures to students and church groups.
Personal life: He was married to Patricia Binstead (stage name Patricia Kerr) from 1960, later divorced, and then to Lynette Green, who also later divorced in 1982. He had one child.
