Apostolic Vicariate of Aysén
The Apostolic Vicariate of Aysén is a Catholic missionary territory in Chile. It belongs to the Latin Church and uses the Roman Rite. It is directly subject to the Holy See (the pope), not part of a local archdiocese.
Location and size: It covers the Region of Aysén in southern Chile, an area of 109,865 square kilometers.
People: About 90,000 people live there, with around 72,000 Catholics (about 79%).
History: It began as an apostolic prefecture on February 17, 1940, created by Pope Pius XII, and was raised to an apostolic vicariate on May 8, 1955.
Parishes and communities: The vicariate has six parishes serving urban and rural communities across the region.
Leadership: The Apostolic Vicar is Mgr. Luigi Infanti della Mora, O.S.M. (Servites). The work is entrusted to the Lombardo-Veneto province of the Servite Order from Italy.
Cathedral and patron: The cathedral is in Puerto Aisén. The patron saint is the Immaculate Conception.
