Shawn Spencer is a fictional character and the main star of the TV show Psych and its film series. He pretends to be a psychic detective, using his amazing powers of observation and his eidetic memory. In reality, he’s just really good at noticing small details.

Shawn works as a freelance consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department with his best friend, Burton "Gus" Guster. They run the private detective agency called Psych and help solve crimes, often with the police.

He comes from a family of police officers. His father, Henry Spencer, is a respected police sergeant who taught Shawn to be hyper-observant.

In the show, Shawn’s “psychic” act helps him team up with Gus to crack cases, and their dynamic is often described as Holmes and Watson.

Psych was created by Steve Franks, and Shawn is played by James Roday Rodriguez. Younger versions of Shawn are played by Liam James (Seasons 1–5) and Skyler Gisondo (Seasons 5–8). His first appearance was in the Pilot episode in 2006.

Shawn has a romantic relationship with Juliet O’Hara, whom he eventually marries. He has had past relationships with Gina Repach and Abigail Lytar.
