Austromola
Austromola is an extinct genus of ocean sunfish in the family Molidae. It has one known species, Austromola angerhoferi, described in 2009 by Gregorova and colleagues.
It lived during the Early Miocene in what is now Austria, in the Ebelsberg Formation near Pucking, as part of the ancient Paratethys Sea. Its closest living relatives are the sunfish of the genera Mola and Masturus. Austromola angerhoferi is estimated to be about 3.2 meters long and 4 meters tall, making it one of the largest fossil bony fishes from the Cenozoic. Three articulated, partially complete specimens are known, providing a clear view of its size and shape.
