Shanghai West railway station
Shanghai West railway station (Shanghai Xī zhàn) is in Putuo District, Shanghai, on Taopu Road. It sits on several rail lines, including the Beijing–Shanghai railway, the Shanghai–Kunming railway, and the Shanghai–Nanjing intercity railway. The station code is TMIS 30662; telecode SXH.
History
The station opened in 1905 as Jessfield railway station and was renamed Zhenru railway station until 1989. In its early days trains ran to Yantai, Zaozhuang, Hengyang, Ganzhou, and Chengdu, and there was a direct Shanghai–Zhangjiajie service. It lost importance as most trains moved to Shanghai railway station to the east and was closed for renovations on July 1, 2006 when Shanghai South railway station opened.
Today
The station reopened in 2010 and now mainly handles high-speed trains between Shanghai and Nanjing, with a few services ending in Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou. A three-line metro interchange is planned, with Lines 11, 15, and 20 proposed to serve the station. Currently, Lines 11 and 15 operate and stop near Exit 1.
