Pokémon: Magikarp Jump
Pokémon: Magikarp Jump
Magikarp Jump is a free-to-play mobile game where you train a Magikarp to jump higher and win contests. It was developed by Select Button and published by The Pokémon Company. It was released for iOS and Android on May 24, 2017.
What you do
- Catch a Magikarp from a pond using a fishing rod (better rods unlock after you clear leagues).
- Raise your Magikarp in a pond, decorate the pond, and use training and food to increase Jump Power (JP).
- Training points recover over time, and food appears in the pond. Upgrading training gear and decorations boosts JP.
- You can earn coins, diamonds, and other rewards; some upgrades can be bought with real money.
- Random events can change JP and create special moments.
Leagues and progress
- The game features ten core leagues plus three Expert leagues (as of August 2017).
- Higher JP means higher jumps, which helps in League Battles against other trainers.
- If you lose a League Battle at max level, your Magikarp is retired. You catch a new Magikarp and restart the league, but you can skip retracing battles you’ve already won to speed things up.
Magikarp varieties
- Magikarp come in colors like red, pink, and gold. Gold is rare and strong at the start, pink is less rare, and red is the most common. The color can affect win chances.
Ending and rank
- Your JP ranking changes as you complete leagues multiple times.
Reception
- The game received mixed reviews. Some praise its charm, music, and the fun, goofy idea of training a Magikarp, while others say the gameplay is shallow and lacks depth compared to other Pokémon mobile games.
